Opposition criticizes govt over alleged neglect of landless squatters amid rain

KATHMANDU: Opposition parties continued their protest during Tuesday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, maintaining their stance against the government.

As soon as the parliamentary meeting began, opposition lawmakers stood up and protested.

Following the protest, Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal allowed CPN-UML lawmaker Ganesh Singh Thagunna to speak on behalf of the opposition parties.

Thagunna reiterated their demand to remove Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s remarks regarding border issues from the parliamentary record.

He said their demand for Prime Minister Shah to apologize in Parliament remains unchanged and clarified that the opposition will continue its protest until their demands are addressed.

Thagunna also criticized the government for allegedly forcing landless squatters to suffer in rainwater due to a lack of proper management.

Accusing the government of misusing state mechanisms and operating them in a retaliatory manner, he said an approach of making arrests first and conducting investigations later was being adopted based on political bias.
