Landslides disrupt Muglin-Narayangadh road

KATHMANDU: Traffic has been disrupted along the Muglin-Narayangadh road after continuous landslides triggered by heavy rainfall made the highway unsafe, local authorities said.

An emergency meeting of the Chitwan District Disaster Management Committee on Tuesday morning decided to halt the movement of all types of vehicles along the road until further notice.

Heavy rain since Monday evening has triggered repeated landslides and falling debris at several locations along the highway.

The road was blocked in both directions near Tuinkhola from Monday evening. Although authorities cleared the debris overnight and allowed stranded passengers and vehicles to continue their journeys, persistent rainfall has kept the risk of further landslides high.

Citing public safety concerns, the local administration has prohibited all vehicular movement on the road until conditions improve. Another landslide occurred near Jalbire on Tuesday morning, prompting the Road Division Office, Chitwan, to deploy heavy equipment to clear the obstruction.

Authorities have urged travelers to check the latest road conditions and follow the instructions of security personnel before traveling. The district administration has also made emergency contact numbers available for road updates and assistance. Travelers can contact Nepal Police at 100, the Armed Police Force at 1114, the District Emergency Operations Center at 1234, or the Information Officer of the District Police Office, Chitwan, at 9855013999 for the latest information.
