Public outrage grows after forest officials allegedly push tempo off cliff in Kailali

KAILALI: Public protests have erupted on social media following an incident in which a public transport tempo was reportedly pushed off a cliff by employees of the Division Forest Office, Dhangadhi, during an operation against alleged forest-area business activities.

Locals said the vehicle belonged to Dhanadevi Dhami of Baspani, Godavari Municipality-4, who used it to transport goods for her livelihood. The incident occurred in Gaimaredanda.

According to victim Dhami, forest office staff removed goods from her parked tempo by the roadside and later pushed the vehicle toward a cliff. She claimed she repeatedly requested officials to allow her to take the vehicle home.

“Even when I said you have already removed the goods, we will take the vehicle ourselves, no one listened,” she said, adding that the destruction of the vehicle has left her family’s livelihood in crisis.

She also questioned the enforcement process, arguing that if any wrongdoing had occurred, legal procedures should have been followed instead of destroying private property.

Locals have expressed anger, saying that ordinary citizens’ livelihoods are being harmed in the name of law enforcement. The incident has triggered widespread criticism and calls for action both locally and on social media.

Meanwhile, the Division Forest Office, Dhangadhi, stated that 47 illegal structures were removed in the area as part of an anti-encroachment campaign.

Following the circulation of a video of the incident, the District Police Office, Kailali, has launched an investigation. Public criticism of the incident continues to grow online.
