CIAA files appeal at Supreme Court against Special Court verdict in corruption case

KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed an appeal at the Supreme Court against a Special Court verdict in a corruption case involving former non-gazetted first-class officer of the District Post Office Bara, Baliram Prasad Kurmi.

The CIAA had filed the corruption case accusing Kurmi of embezzling depositors’ money from the Postal Savings Bank in Bara and had sought recovery of Rs 53.564 million in damages.

However, the Special Court, through its verdict issued on Magh 22, 2082 BS, had granted partial acquittal in the case.

Stating dissatisfaction with the ruling, the CIAA on Thursday registered an appeal petition at the Supreme Court, according to commission spokesperson Suresh Naupane.
