Nepali Congress warns protests in Parliament will continue if PM Balen Shah remains absent

KATHMANDU: The main opposition party Nepali Congress has warned that its protest in Parliament will continue if Prime Minister Balen Shah does not appear in the House of Representatives.

Speaking during the House meeting, party whip Nishkal Rai said the opposition would maintain its obstruction unless the Prime Minister attends Parliament.

Rai urged Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal to play a role in ensuring the Prime Minister’s presence in the House.

“I once again request you. You are our guardian and the protector of Parliament. You must take this matter seriously,” Rai said. “If the Prime Minister does not appear in the House, our protest will continue.”

Questioning the Prime Minister’s absence, Rai said ignoring Parliament was not merely negligence but reflected indifference toward the parliamentary system itself.

“The situation has reached a point where institutions like schools and universities are being skipped,” he said. “Neglecting a dignified institution like Parliament is not only unfortunate, but also a sign of indifference toward parliamentary democracy.”

He also criticized ruling party lawmakers for attempting to portray the issue as normal.
