No party will get a majority; the country may remain in a cycle of instability: Surendra Pandey
Leader of CPN-UML, Surendra Pandey, is widely regarded as an intellectual and experienced leader within the party. Despite continuing his studies, Pandey was denied a parliamentary ticket by party Chairman KP Sharma Oli this election, reportedly due to political differences. Although he did not receive a ticket for Chitwan Constituency-1, Pandey, former UML Vice Chairman actively supported UML candidate Kamal Pathak during the nomination process and continues to participate in the party’s election campaign.
Prachanda visits historic Chunbang site during Rukum East voter outreach
Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, coordinator of the Nepali Communist Party, visited the historic Chunbang site in Bheri Danda this morning while campaigning for the upcoming House of Representatives election in Rukum East. Chunbang, the former central committee meeting venue of the then Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), hosted a landmark meeting in 2005, where the party adopted the proposal for a democratic republic and opened the path for cooperation with parliamentary political parties. During that meeting, the party reduced its central committee from 95 to 35 members. The gathering is considered a historic milestone in Nepal’s political history.
Hydropower projects accused of drying up Modi River in Parbat
Hydropower projects operating along the Modi River have been accused of failing to release the mandatory minimum water flow, leaving long stretches of the river nearly dry in Parbat district. According to local authorities, four hydropower projects are currently in operation along the Parbat section of the river. These include the 14.8 MW Modi Khola Hydropower Centre under the Nepal Electricity Authority, the 15.8 MW Madhyam Modi Hydropower Limited, the 20 MW Lower Modi Khola Hydropower Project, and the 10 MW Lower Modi ‘A’ project.
Election Commission to study reasons behind lower number of women voters
The Election Commission Nepal has said it will conduct a study into why the number of women listed in the voter roll appears lower despite women constituting a larger share of the population. Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari made the remarks while addressing the closing session of the “Election and Mass Communication Workshop and Chief Trainer Training” organized by the Commission in Kathmandu on Friday.

Traffic management plan enforced in Pashupati area for Maha Shivaratri
Preparations have been completed at the Pashupatinath Temple area for this year’s Maha Shivaratri festival, which falls on Sunday. Authorities have carried out painting, cleaning, and other maintenance works in the Pashupati premises. A large number of sadhus and saints have already arrived at the temple area. Muktinath cable car EIA report submitted to ministry
The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report of the ambitious cable car project proposed from Shera Phant in Parbat to Muktinath in Mustang has been prepared and submitted to the Ministry of Forests and Environment. The report was submitted by Muktinath Darshan Pvt. Ltd. through the Investment Board Nepal. The ministry has made the report public for suggestions.
UML mobilizes thousands for door-to-door campaign in Jhapa-5, seeks support for KP Oli
The UML has launched a large-scale door-to-door campaign in Jhapa Constituency-5 from Sunday, mobilizing thousands of party workers to collect voters’ feedback and address local concerns. According to Devendra Dahal, central committee member of the party and coordinator of the election mobilization committee for the constituency, the campaign aims to directly connect with voters and incorporate their suggestions into the party’s agenda.
Driver killed after car plunges into Phewa Lake in Pokhara
A 24-year-old man died after the car he was driving plunged into Phewa Lake in the early hours of Friday. The accident occurred at around 2:10 am near Gaira Chautara in Pame, Pokhara Metropolitan City–6, when a car bearing registration number BAA 1582 lost control and fell into the lake.
Ballot papers printing completed in most districts, sans 14
With just 19 days remaining until the House of Representatives (HoR) elections on March 5, the printing of ballot papers has entered its final phase. According to the Election Commission (EC), ballots for only 14 districts, mainly around the Kathmandu Valley, are yet to be printed. Ballot printing is being carried out at the Janak Education Materials Centre in Bhaktapur. The Commission stated that ballot papers for 133 constituencies across 63 districts have already been printed.
