Driver killed after car plunges into Phewa Lake in Pokhara



KASKI: A 24-year-old man died after the car he was driving plunged into Phewa Lake in the early hours of Friday.

The accident occurred at around 2:10 am near Gaira Chautara in Pame, Pokhara Metropolitan City–6, when a car bearing registration number BAA 1582 lost control and fell into the lake.

The deceased has been identified as Adit Gurung of Phedikhola Rural Municipality–5 in Syangja, currently residing in Masbar, Pokhara–7.

According to Superintendent of Police Basanta Bahadur Singh, Chief of the Armed Police Force’s Armed Police Force Nepal Kalika Battalion, a rescue team comprising 21 personnel, including divers, was immediately deployed to the site under his command after receiving information about the incident.

The divers rescued the unconscious driver from the lake and rushed him to Gandaki Medical College for treatment. However, doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

Police said the vehicle was later retrieved from the lake with the help of a crane and taken to the Ward Police Office in Baidam for further investigation.

Further inquiry into the incident is underway.
