Deuba–general secretaries talks end without agreement

KATHMANDU: Talks between Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma ended without any agreement on Wednesday.

The general secretaries had reached Deuba’s Maharajgunj residence for talks after being called by the party president. The meeting lasted for nearly one and a half hours, but the sides failed to reach a consensus and left without a breakthrough.

Leaders including Ramesh Lekhak, Jivan Pariyar, Minendra Rijal and Bal Krishna Khand were also present during the talks.

Following the inconclusive meeting, the general secretaries have prepared to inform the Election Committee and move ahead with the election process.

With no agreement reached in what was described as a decisive round of talks, leaders backing the Special General Convention have moved forward with the process to select the party’s policy and leadership through elections.

The Central Working Committee meeting, scheduled for 8 am, could not be held due to the ongoing talks with the party president.
