DAO Jhapa directs handover of licensed weapons before elections

JHAPA: The District Administration Office (DAO), Jhapa, has issued a public notice directing licensed weapon holders to deposit their firearms by mid-February in preparation for the upcoming House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5.

The measure aims to ensure a free, fair, fearless and peaceful electoral environment. According to Assistant Chief District Officer Tej Prakash Prasain, all licensed weapons in the district, along with their ammunition, must be deposited at the nearest police post, area police office, or the district police office.

He said arrangements have been made for owners to reclaim their weapons 21 days after the election upon presenting the required documents.

Emphasizing that peaceful and secure elections are a matter of national pride, the District Administration Office has called on district residents, civil society and all stakeholders to extend full cooperation in implementing the directive.
