ICC Cricket: Nepal takes on Oman today

KATHMANDU: Nepal faces Oman today in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 series at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground in Oman, with the match scheduled to begin at 11:15 am Nepali time.

Having lost the chance to finish in the top four, Nepal is now focused on securing a place in the top six to preserve its One Day International (ODI) status. Today’s match is therefore crucial to the team’s campaign.

Nepal kept its hopes of finishing in the top six alive with a victory over Canada on Sunday. The team now faces pressure to perform consistently and win its remaining matches.

Nepal needs to win at least three of its four remaining matches against Oman and Canada to strengthen its chances of finishing in the top six and retaining its ODI status.

Eight teams are competing in League 2. The United States, Scotland, and the Netherlands occupy the top positions and have secured qualification for the 2027 World Cup Qualifier.

In the current standings, Nepal sits sixth with 26 points from 33 matches. Oman has accumulated 33 points from 29 matches, while Canada has 25 points from 34 matches. Namibia has 31 points from 35 matches, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is at the bottom with 19 points from 32 matches.

Following today’s encounter, Nepal will face Canada again next Saturday before taking on Oman on October 19.
