Road authority opts for special technology to prevent landslide

CHITWAN: The Road Division Office, Bharatpur has planned a special technology to prevent landslide at Tuinkhola of Narayangadh-Muglin roadway.

As the land slips continued in this section even during winter season since last year, the road authority is all set to adopt ‘nailing’.  Along with nailing (method to stabilize soil), a horizontal drain and bioengineering would also be in place to drain the seepage.

Chief of Road Division Office, engineer Narayan Prasad Lamichhane, informed RSS that efforts were on at present to break the stones that would fall at any time on the road and obstruct vehicular movement.  “For seven days, the large stones are being broken and removed. Considering urgent section, number of workers is concentrated,” he added.

Based on slope, the nailing would be carried out by maintaining two dimensional and three dimensional structures and bioengineering as well.

Slope is being created with inside cuts, engineer Lamichhane said, adding that it would follow nailing. Horizontal drain helps remove seepage. The stabilizing of soil would be accomplished in a month.

The disturbed section of the road has halted the vehicular movement for 30 minutes in each two hours to continue repair. (RSS)
