We will prioritise suggestions received, says Minister Pokharel

SAPTARI: Education and Sports Minister Sasmit Pokharel has said the government will prioritise suggestions received from students, parents, elected representatives and education professionals in Madhesh Province.

Minister Pokharel made the remarks during a visit to Kesho Anirudhawati Secondary School in Rajbiraj to collect suggestions. He said he would visit schools in Saptari and other districts of Madhesh, conduct on-site inspections and gather feedback from students, parents, teachers and elected representatives before moving ahead with the work.

“We are collecting suggestions through both verbal feedback and written forms, according to the districts. We plan to prioritise the suggestions received and accelerate our work accordingly,” he said.

Pokharel said he had been touring Madhesh Province for the past three days. He said the government was preparing to develop a new curriculum and that suggestions based on practical realities would be incorporated as a new education law and regulations are being drafted.

He said suggestions had been sought on how the new curriculum should be developed and what changes were needed, with respondents emphasising the need for skills-based education.

The minister said understanding problems through field visits would make it easier to find solutions and that similar suggestion-gathering programmes would be conducted in other provinces as well.

Meanwhile, a delegation led by Dr Bhagwan Thakur, registrar of Madhesh Agricultural University, submitted a memorandum to Minister Pokharel. The delegation called for the provincial university to be treated on par with central universities, greater coordination and support with the University Grants Commission and other agencies, an integrated entrance examination, and the inclusion of agricultural colleges established in the province under the university.
