Rasuwa flood damages seven health institutions worth Rs 236.6 million



KATHMANDU: The flood that struck the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa on August 26 has damaged seven health institutions, with total losses estimated at Rs 236.6 million.

According to the Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment report prepared by the National Planning Commission and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, four health posts were completely destroyed, while two primary health care centres and one hospital sustained partial damage.

The assessment estimates that physical infrastructure suffered damage worth Rs 195 million, while medical equipment and other health-related assets worth Rs 41.6 million were destroyed.

The partially damaged hospital alone suffered an estimated loss of Rs 60 million. The four completely damaged health posts sustained combined losses of Rs 78 million, while the two primary health care centres incurred losses estimated at Rs 52 million.

The report estimates that Rs 780 million will be required to reconstruct and rehabilitate the affected health institutions. Of this amount, Rs 125 million has been projected for immediate rehabilitation over the first six months, while Rs 655 million will be needed for long-term reconstruction and recovery.
