KATHMANDU: Monsoon activity remains active across Nepal, with the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology forecasting rainfall in several provinces and warning of possible heavy downpours in some hilly and mountainous areas.
At present, the hilly and mountainous regions are generally cloudy. Madhes Province and the Terai region of Koshi Province are partly cloudy, while the Terai areas of Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces are mostly clear. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is occurring in some places of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali provinces.
The Department said that this afternoon the hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces will remain generally cloudy, while the Terai region of Madhes Province and parts of Sudurpaschim Province will be partly cloudy.
There is a possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall in some hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, and in a few places of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces. Similar rainfall is also likely in a few places of the Terai regions of Madhes, Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, and at one or two places in the Terai of Sudurpaschim Province.
Tonight, weather conditions are expected to remain generally cloudy across the country. Moderate to heavy rain with thunder and lightning is likely in some hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as in parts of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces. Similar conditions are expected in some Terai areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, while Madhes Province may receive rainfall at one or two places.
The Department has urged residents to remain alert, as heavy rainfall may increase the risk of flash floods, floods, landslides and soil erosion. Such weather could affect daily life, agriculture, health services, tourism, mountaineering, and road and air transportation.
