RUPANDEHI: The District Police Office Rupandehi has arrested four individuals who had been absconding after courts sentenced them to imprisonment and fines.
According to Superintendent of Police Janak Bahadur Shahi, chief of the District Police Office, the four were arrested during a search operation launched to trace convicts who had remained at large after court verdicts.
Among those arrested is Bishal Tharu of Khungaun, Suddhodhan Rural Municipality-7, who was convicted in a theft case and sentenced to two months and four days in prison.
Similarly, Ramdaras Lohar of Belhiya, Suddhodhan Rural Municipality-6, was arrested in a rape case. The court had sentenced him to one year, five months and six days in prison along with a fine of Rs 15,000.
Ganesh Mallah of Chhapiya, Siyari Rural Municipality-8, was also arrested in a theft case. He had been sentenced to two months in prison and fined Rs 10,000.
Basudev Kewat, also known as Sundar Kewat, of Razad, Suddhodhan Rural Municipality-5, was arrested in the same case. The court had sentenced him to two months and three days in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 6,000.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar Chand, information officer of the District Police Office, the arrested convicts have been presented before the concerned court.
The police said the search and arrest campaign against other absconding convicts will continue to ensure effective implementation of court verdicts.
