Westerly trough likely to bring rain, thunderstorms



KATHMANDU: With the influence of a westerly trough and local weather systems persisting over Nepal, the Weather Forecasting Division has warned of possible heavy rainfall in parts of Koshi Province and thunderstorms in several hilly regions today.

According to the Division, weather conditions are generally cloudy in the hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, while the rest of the country is experiencing partly cloudy skies.

Light to moderate rainfall is occurring at a few places in Koshi Province and at isolated locations in Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

This afternoon, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy in the hilly and mountainous areas, including Koshi Province, and partly cloudy in the remaining Terai regions.

The Division has forecast moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning at a few places in the hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, with isolated rainfall likely in other hilly and Terai areas. Light snowfall is also possible in some high-altitude regions.

Tonight, weather conditions will remain generally cloudy in the hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. The remaining hilly regions, including Madhesh Province, are expected to see partly cloudy skies, while the Terai will remain mainly fair.

The Division has forecast moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning at a few places in the hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and at one or two places in the remaining hilly regions. There is also a possibility of heavy rainfall at one or two locations in Koshi Province.

The Division has urged the public to remain alert, as rainfall and thunderstorms may affect daily life, agriculture, and road and air transportation in some areas.
