Agriculture office distributes Rs 450 million in grants to farmers in five years



 

NAWALPUR: The Agriculture Development Office in Nawalparasi East District has distributed nearly Rs 450 million in grants to farmers over the past five fiscal years since 2020/21.

According to the office, a total of 951 farmers in the district have received financial support under various agricultural programs.

Information officer Bishwas Kafle said the grants ranged from Rs 870 to Rs 50 million depending on the nature of the programs.

Among the beneficiaries, the Jugepani Tamangtol Farmers’ Group received Rs 50 million under a crop insurance scheme. Individual farmers have also received grants through multiple agricultural support programs.

The office has been providing financial assistance for commercial vegetable farming, fruit orchard management and expansion, establishment and expansion of small farmers’ agricultural farms, maize seed production and maize farm promotion, exhibition of advanced agricultural tools, small irrigation projects, and off-season vegetable promotion.

Chief of the office Rajesh Silwal said priority has been given to highway-corridor focused crop production and promotion programs, emergency agricultural services, crop-specific onsite training, food production promotion projects, and vegetable farming initiatives in the current fiscal year.

For the ongoing fiscal year, the office has allocated a budget of Rs 51.7 million. Silwal said most of the approved programs have already been launched while others are in the implementation process.
