Nepal suspends on-arrival visas for Iranian citizens

KATHMANDU: The Department of Immigration has announced that the government will no longer issue on-arrival visas to citizens of Iran wishing to visit Nepal.

According to the Department, Iranian nationals, except those holding diplomatic and official passports, will now be required to obtain a visa from a Nepali embassy or diplomatic mission abroad before entering the country.

With this decision, the number of countries whose citizens are not eligible for on-arrival visas in Nepal has reached 13. Nepal already does not provide on-arrival visas to citizens of Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan and Syria.

In addition, individuals holding refugee status are also required to obtain a visa in advance to enter Nepal.
