KATHMANDU: Acting Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Ram Prasad Bhandari has said that elections are the only constitutional means to restore order in the country.
Speaking at a program in Kathmandu today, Bhandari said the Election Commission is committed to conducting free, fair and credible elections to help restore stability and discipline in the aftermath of the Gen-Z protests of September 8 and 9, 2025.
He emphasized the important role of mass media, particularly community radio stations, in ensuring a smooth electoral process. Bhandari called on media professionals to cooperate with the Commission by disseminating accurate information and countering misinformation.
Stressing the growing challenge of false, misleading and harmful content on social media, he said efforts are underway to curb such activities.
“An agreement has been reached with TikTok to prevent the spread of false and misleading information through the platform, and a similar agreement is in the process of being finalized with Meta. Agreements have also been made with other media outlets in the country to verify the authenticity of information,” he said.
During the program, the election code of conduct prepared by the association for radio workers was also presented. Acting Chief Election Commissioner Bhandari urged community radio stations across the country to help raise awareness about both the association’s code of conduct and the Election Commission’s election code of conduct to ensure a disciplined and credible electoral environment.
