President Paudel listed as voters in NC election, raising questions over resignation

KATHMANDU: Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba has been listed first and President Ram Chandra Paudel second on the voters’ list published for the Nepali Congress’ special general convention election, triggering questions over Paudel’s earlier claim of having resigned from the party.

According to the official voters’ roll released by the Election Committee, Deuba’s voter identification number is 770010070100003/13-14, while President Paudel’s number is 408011010400094/10-14.

Paudel had publicly announced that he resigned from all responsibilities within the Nepali Congress after being elected President on March 12, 2023. However, his inclusion as a voting delegate in the party’s official list indicates that his resignation was not formally implemented in the party’s records.

Following his election as head of state, Paudel was reported to have submitted his resignation through party leader Rajuraj Joshi to the party’s chief secretary, Krishna Prasad Paudel. At the time, he also held the position of a senior leader within the Nepali Congress.
