PM Shah calls for impartial policing free from undue influence

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Balendra Shah has said that ethics, integrity and honesty are the fundamental requirements for professional success.

Addressing the graduation ceremony of the 184th batch of Police Inspector Basic Training at the National Police Academy in Maharajgunj on Sunday, Shah urged the newly inducted police inspectors to internalize and apply the knowledge and skills they had acquired during their training.

“Maintaining professional conduct and discipline, and strictly adhering to the Constitution, prevailing laws, rules, procedures and standards are essential to professional success. Accountability in carrying out one’s responsibilities is equally important,” he said, urging the graduates to uphold these principles throughout their careers in the Nepal Police.

Shah said the Nepal Police bears the responsibility of maintaining peace and security, investigating crimes and safeguarding citizens’ rights and freedoms in accordance with the law.

He urged the newly appointed inspectors to perform their duties without succumbing to undue influence or engaging in discrimination.

“Remain committed to your responsibilities without any form of undue influence or discrimination. Understand your role and the objectives of the organization, and work with dedication while respecting the sentiments of citizens,” he said.

The prime minister also stressed the importance of teamwork, coordination and collaboration within the police organization. He said the effective use of information technology could make police operations faster, easier and more transparent while saving time, facilitating timely criminal investigations and enabling prompt responses to incidents.

“Information technology should be properly utilized to ensure impartial, evidence-based, scientific and technology-driven criminal investigations,” Shah said, adding that leadership and training also play crucial roles in strengthening the police organization.

He said the government remained committed to providing the resources and equipment required to support effective investigations and enable the police to fulfil their responsibilities.

Shah congratulated the newly inducted inspectors and wished them success in their professional careers. He also expressed gratitude to the family members of police personnel for their continued support and encouragement. A total of 79 police inspectors were inducted at the ceremony.
