Prachanda urges priority for reconstruction and rehabilitation

DHADING: Nepali Communist Party (NCP) Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that flood-affected areas should be given priority for permanent reconstruction and rehabilitation alongside immediate relief and temporary arrangements.

Speaking after inspecting flood-affected areas in Galchhi, Dhading, on Saturday, Dahal said the scale of human and property losses made reconstruction and rehabilitation an urgent priority.

“The material losses have been huge. Along with providing relief to flood victims, we now need to focus on temporary and permanent reconstruction and rehabilitation,” he said.

Dahal said the NCP had been taking initiatives from the outset of the disaster. He said the party had immediately called for intensified rescue and relief operations in the affected areas and later held discussions on the post-disaster situation.

He said the party had formed a committee led by party leader Gangalal Tuladhar, who has experience in disaster management, to coordinate its response. Party leaders and cadres have also been mobilized in the affected areas, he added. Dahal praised the efforts of the party’s youth wing, the Young Communist League (YCL), in the flood-hit areas.

“Our youths, particularly the YCL, have reached the affected areas and carried out coordinated relief work. I would like to thank them,” he said. Dahal visited Galchhi to assess the situation on the ground and gather information about the impact of the floods on the affected communities.
