KATHMANDU: The dissenting faction of the Nepali Congress is preparing to welcome former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba with traditional music and a cultural tableau upon his return to Nepal.
Deuba, who is returning to Nepal on Thursday after nearly six months, will be welcomed at Tribhuvan International Airport with a musical procession and cultural presentation.
Deuba had left for Singapore on February 25 for medical treatment and later traveled from Singapore to Hong Kong on March 21, where he remained for further treatment.
Bidya Timilsina, coordinator of the cultural committee formed by the dissenting faction for its national gathering scheduled for August 14, said a cultural procession accompanied by traditional music would be organized to welcome Deuba.
Congress leader Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat said Deuba, who is also a former prime minister, is scheduled to arrive in Kathmandu at around 12:30 pm Thursday on a Thai Airways flight.
Deuba had traveled to Singapore for treatment after sustaining injuries in a physical attack during the Gen-Z movement. He later traveled to Hong Kong for further treatment.
After returning to Nepal, Deuba will attend the national gathering of the Congress dissenting faction at Miracle Party Palace in Sukedhara on Friday.
According to Meen Bishwakarma, coordinator of the publicity committee, the national gathering will begin at 1 pm Friday and continue for three days. The faction expects around 5,000 party leaders and cadres to participate.
Deuba’s return and the national gathering are being viewed as significant developments amid the ongoing internal dispute within the Nepali Congress, particularly over party leadership and organizational restructuring.
