KATHMANDU: England’s Jude Bellingham scored twice, including the extra-time winner, as England edged Norway 2-1 in a thrilling World Cup quarterfinal at Miami Stadium to book a place in the semifinals.
Norway took the lead in the 36th minute through Andreas Schjelderup, whose attempted cross caught everyone off guard and found the net after going in off the far post.
England responded in first-half stoppage time when Bellingham surged into the penalty area and fired past two defenders to level the score before the break.
With the match tied at 1-1 after 90 minutes, it went into extra time. Bellingham struck again in the first half of extra time, reacting quickest to a rebound after the Norwegian goalkeeper made an initial save to seal England’s victory.
The two-goal performance takes Bellingham’s tally to six goals in the tournament, drawing him level with Harry Kane as England’s joint-leading scorer.
England will face either Argentina or Switzerland in the World Cup semifinals.
