Education Minister says special classes will be introduced for SEE non-graded students

KATHMANDU: Minister for Education, Science and Technology Sasmit Pokharel has said that the government will introduce preparatory classes for students who received non-graded results in the Secondary Education Examination (SEE).

Speaking at a meeting of the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee under the House of Representatives held at Singha Durbar on Tuesday, Minister Pokharel said the ministry is committed to supporting non-graded students through targeted academic support programmes.

He also stated that efforts are underway to maintain an academic environment in educational institutions by depoliticising the education sector. However, he clarified that the government does not intend to impose a complete ban on political activities in schools, adding that such activities should be conducted outside academic settings without disrupting the learning environment.

The minister further said that merging schools with very low student numbers is being considered only as a last resort. Instead, the government’s policy focuses on strengthening existing schools by increasing student enrolment.

During the meeting, committee members also drew the government’s attention to ensuring the continuity of education for children displaced from squatter settlements, urging immediate special arrangements to address their learning needs.
