Parsa National Park forms dedicated ‘Wildlife Rescue Team’

BIRGUNJ: Parsa National Park has established a dedicated “Wildlife Rescue Team” to ensure the rapid rescue and treatment of injured wild animals within and around the protected area.

Previously, wildlife rescue operations in the park depended on teams dispatched from Chitwan National Park. However, since the first week of Baisakh, the park has begun operating its own in-house rescue unit.

According to Parsa National Park Information Officer Santosh Kumar Bhagat, the new arrangement has significantly improved the speed and efficiency of rescue operations.

“In the past, whenever wildlife was injured or involved in an accident, we had to call a rescue team from Chitwan National Park,” Bhagat said. “Now that the team is based here, rescue and treatment can be carried out much more quickly and effectively.”

The rescue team consists of veterinarians, technicians, and drivers trained to respond to wildlife emergencies across the region.

Bhagat said the team has been conducting rescue operations in the districts of Bara, Parsa, Rautahat, and Makawanpur whenever injured or distressed wildlife is reported.

According to the park office, rescue efforts carried out up to Chaitra of the current fiscal year include one leopard cat, six monitor lizards, and 100 rat snakes.

The park has also rescued 25 king cobras, 15 pythons, one pangolin, and three other wild animals, all of which were treated and later released back into their natural habitats.
