Energy Minister Shrestha holds Rs 8 million across eight banks, owns watch worth Rs 300,000



KATHMANDU: Energy Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha has disclosed assets including over Rs 8 million deposited across eight banks.

According to his property details, he owns two houses in Kathmandu—one in his own name in Ward No. 24 and another in the name of Bikash Shrestha in Ward No. 13.

The first property covers two annas of land, while the second spans four annas. He has stated that the houses were built by selling ancestral property.

Shrestha has reported total bank deposits of Rs 8,040,117 across eight banks in Kathmandu. Of this, funds in six banks are from self-earned income, Rs 1.5 million deposited in Synergy Cooperative Ltd. is from ancestral sources, and Rs 2.5 million is from a mix of ancestral, marital, and self-earned income.

He also owns 15 tolas of gold and 50 tolas of silver, with the source identified as ancestral and marital. In addition, he holds 20,978 shares in various companies, valued at over Rs 14.5 million.

Regarding liabilities, Shrestha has taken a loan of Rs 2 million from his father, Rs 3 million from Nabil Bank for vehicle purchase, and Rs 3.5 million from Synergy Cooperative.

His assets also include a Land Cruiser purchased for Rs 850,000, a scooter worth Rs 246,000, and an electric vehicle worth Rs 1.9 million. He has further declared ownership of branded watches worth Rs 300,000.
