Cooking gas to be distributed in half cylinders amid shortage



KATHMANDU: The Nepal Oil Corporation has decided to distribute only half cylinders of cooking gas to consumers in a bid to manage the ongoing supply shortage in the market.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the corporation’s board of directors held on Thursday, considering the growing scarcity of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in the domestic market.

According to the corporation’s Executive Director Chandika Prasad Bhatta, the move was introduced after consumers began stockpiling more gas cylinders than necessary, creating further imbalance in supply.

Gas shortages have been reported in the Nepali market for the past two months, with the situation worsening recently due to rising tensions and conflict in West Asia.

Nepal imports LPG from Indian Oil Corporation, which supplies the fuel to the Nepali market through the Nepal Oil Corporation.
