Election Commission updates Dhanusha-1 results on website

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission Nepal has updated the vote details of Dhanusha Constituency-1 under the first-past-the-post system on its official website.

The results had not previously been published online despite the vote count being completed, after Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) candidate Kishori Sah was blacklisted shortly before the election.

During vote counting, Sah reportedly secured the highest number of votes, prompting the commission to delay announcing the result due to the controversy surrounding his candidacy.

Following disputes among local stakeholders and political parties, the commission declared Matrika Prasad Yadav of the Nepali Communist Party as the winner among the eligible candidates who were not blacklisted, and issued him the certificate of victory.

Sah has filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court of Nepal challenging the decision. The court has summoned both sides for discussion on March 13.

The commission updated the election details on its website even as the case remains sub judice. With the update, results for all 165 seats under the direct electoral system have now been made public.

Meanwhile, vote counting under the proportional representation system has already been completed, and the commission is preparing to announce the allocation of seats later today.

In Dhanusha-1, Matrika Prasad Yadav secured victory with 10,103 votes. His closest rival Rampatan Sah of the Nepali Congress received 9,502 votes.

Ramchandra Mandal of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML) obtained 9,315 votes, while Deepak Karki of the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal secured 4,145 votes.
