KATHMANDU: The Children as Zone of Peace (CZOP) National Campaign has urged all political parties to incorporate child rights issues in their election manifestos.
Drawing the attention of political stakeholders, the campaign handed over a 25-point memorandum to representatives of various political parties, calling for the inclusion of child rights protection and promotion in their policy commitments.
CZOP reminded local, provincial and federal governments of their constitutional obligations to safeguard children’s rights in line with Nepal’s Constitution, the Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989), the Child Rights Act, 2075 BS, the Local Government Operation Act, 2074 BS, and the National Child Policy.
The campaign also called on political parties to prioritise child-friendly local governance and to work towards declaring local units free from child marriage and child labour. It further urged commitments to ensure nutrition-rich communities, environmentally friendly local units, and areas free from violence against children.
CZOP emphasized the need for political parties to guarantee the protection, participation and overall interests of children through concrete policy measures in their election agendas.
