Closed session of Nepali Congress special general convention begins today

KATHMANDU: The closed session of the Nepali Congress’s second special general convention is being held today under the ongoing convention at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu. The special general convention, which began on Sunday, held its inaugural session on the first day, while Monday has been designated for the closed session.

According to Subash Pokhrel, coordinator of the convention’s publicity committee, the closed session begins at 10 a.m. at the Bhrikutimandap hall.

The session will start with the formulation of procedures for conducting the special general convention. This will be followed by the formation of nine groups, which will deliberate on four key thematic areas.
The discussions will focus on constitutional amendments, policy and leadership, governance reform, and contemporary issues, Pokhrel said.

After the policy deliberations, a broad discussion will be held on whether or not to change the party leadership. If a decision is made in favor of leadership change, an election committee will be formed and further procedures will be initiated. Pokhrel noted that there is a possibility the new working committee could be elected unopposed, making voting unnecessary.

Meanwhile, registration of general convention delegates will continue until 11 a.m. today.

According to Yubaraj Pandey, coordinator of the constituency and district coordination committee, many delegates from various districts arrived only this morning and are participating in the registration process that began at 8 a.m.
