KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Thapa has said that the government’s view of the private sector is not positive.
Speaking at a programme organised by the Girija Prasad Koirala Foundation in Kathmandu on Friday, Thapa said the current Prime Minister has shown a tendency to dislike and neglect the private sector.
He said that although there is a positive attitude towards the operation and profitability of public enterprises such as the Dairy Development Corporation, Hetauda Textile Factory, and Nepal Pharmaceuticals Limited, state policymakers have failed to understand the reality of the private sector and the broader economy.
Thapa said the economic liberalisation and policies introduced under the leadership of Girija Prasad Koirala after the political change of 2046 BS are of great importance.
He stressed the need for a sound economic vision, saying that the Prime Minister’s thinking ultimately becomes government policy and decisions, particularly at a time when significant resources need to be mobilised for post-disaster reconstruction.
Thapa also said there is no ambiguity that the Nepali Congress general convention will be held on the scheduled date. He said there would be healthy competition within the party and that the party would remain united by accommodating both those who assume leadership and those who do not.
He further said that a nationwide campaign would be launched across all 77 districts immediately after the general convention and Dashain to rebuild the trust that has been damaged between the party and citizens.
