KATHMANDU: Opposition lawmakers again protested in the House of Representatives on Tuesday, demanding that Prime Minister Balen Shah’s remarks concerning Nepal’s border with India be removed from the parliamentary record.
Opposition lawmakers stood up in protest as soon as Tuesday’s meeting of the House began.
Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal then gave Nepali Congress lawmaker Bharat Kumar Swar time to speak.
Swar accused Prime Minister Shah of making irresponsible remarks regarding the border dispute with India and demanded that he apologise to Parliament.
He also objected to the Prime Minister’s response in which Shah said he was under a “blockade or siege” instead of providing clarification over his remarks.
Swar accused the government of remaining silent despite the clear position that Limpiyadhura, Kalapani and Susta are Nepali territories.
He also called for the assets, gold and silver, and land holdings of all political leaders and elected representatives to be made public and investigated impartially as part of efforts to control corruption.
Swar challenged the government to make investigation reports on various incidents public in a transparent manner.
“Who is stopping the Prime Minister from making the investigation reports of various incidents public?” he questioned.
Other opposition lawmakers also said their protest in Parliament would continue until the Prime Minister corrected his remarks concerning the border.
They have been demanding that Prime Minister Shah appear before Parliament and provide a clear explanation of his remarks.
