Shekhar Koirala to address Nepali Congress dissenting faction’s national gathering

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Dr Shekhar Koirala is set to address a national gathering being organised by the party’s faction outside the establishment group on August 14.

Koirala has been invited to address the gathering, and he will attend and speak at the event, according to his personal secretary Dinesh Thapaliya.

“Shekhar dai has been invited specifically to address the gathering on the 14th. He will attend and address the event,” Thapaliya told Khabarhub.

Meanwhile, Thapaliya said no schedule has yet been finalised for Koirala to go to Tribhuvan International Airport to welcome former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba.

“There is no schedule yet for going to the airport to receive Sher Bahadur dai,” he said.

The dispute within the Nepali Congress has intensified after Gagan Thapa was elected party president through a special general convention.

Former president Deuba and several senior party leaders have not accepted the special general convention and the new leadership elected through it.

Against this backdrop, the faction outside the establishment group is preparing to hold the national gathering on August 14 as a show of strength.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Prakash Sharan Mahat said former president Deuba, who is currently in Singapore, is scheduled to arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport at noon on August 13.

The August 14 gathering is being viewed as an important platform for the faction to present its position on the latest dispute within the party, the new leadership emerging from the special general convention and its political strategy for the coming days.
