KATHMANDU: Active monsoon winds are expected to bring moderate to heavy rainfall to parts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces, with possible snowfall in higher Himalayan areas.
The weather is likely to remain generally cloudy across most parts of the country throughout the day and night, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
The Department said the weather is generally cloudy across Koshi and Lumbini provinces and in the hilly and mountainous areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
The weather is partly cloudy in the Terai of Madhes Province as well as in the Terai areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, and Sudurpaschim provinces. Light to moderate rainfall is occurring in some places in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
According to the Department, the weather will remain generally cloudy across the country this afternoon. There is a possibility of moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in some mountainous areas, along with possible snowfall in higher elevations. Many hilly areas are likely to receive moderate rainfall.
In a weather bulletin issued by the Department, it said the weather will remain generally cloudy in the hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, while the Terai areas of Madhes, Koshi, and Bagmati provinces will remain partly cloudy.
The bulletin also states that moderate to heavy rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in some mountainous areas of the country. Many places in the hilly regions of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall, while some hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces may also receive moderate to heavy rain.
Similarly, some places in the Terai of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces may experience moderate to heavy rainfall, while one or two places in the Terai of Madhes, Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces may receive moderate to heavy rain.
The Department has warned of the possibility of heavy rainfall in the hilly areas of Karnali Province and in the hilly and Terai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Tonight, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy across the country. Moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in some Himalayan areas, while many hilly regions and the Terai areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces are expected to receive moderate rainfall.
Moderate rainfall is also likely in some Terai areas of Madhes and Koshi provinces. The Department has further warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur in some Himalayan and hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, the hilly region of Karnali Province, and the hilly and Terai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Residents of these areas have been urged to take necessary precautions, as heavy rainfall may increase the risk of flash floods, flooding, landslides, and soil erosion. The department said these conditions could affect daily life, agriculture, health services, tourism, mountaineering, and road and air transportation.
