Prime Minister Shah walks out of Parliament during policy and program presentation

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balen Shah left the Federal Parliament while President Ram Chandra Paudel was presenting the government’s policy and program on Monday.

According to lawmakers present in the House, the Prime Minister remained in the session for about half an hour before walking out while the presentation was still underway.

The President had delivered the policy and program speech for over an hour and 15 minutes.

“Around half an hour, he was sitting next to Swarnim Wagle. After that, he left,” a lawmaker said, adding that the Prime Minister exited while the President was still reading the document.

Under normal parliamentary practice, the head of government is expected to remain present during the presentation of the policy and program by the head of state.

However, the Prime Minister’s early exit has drawn attention inside the House.

Lawmakers also noted that the Prime Minister had initially presented the policy and program to the President before its formal reading in Parliament.
