KATHMANDU: The government has launched the National Cleanliness Week from today across all government offices with the aim of making public service delivery cleaner and more environment-friendly.
The campaign has been implemented at the federal, provincial and local levels simultaneously.
The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers has issued special guidelines directing all ministries and government bodies to actively participate in the campaign.
The formal launch of the national programme is being held at Bir Hospital this morning. According to the Guidelines for the Operation of Cleanliness Week, 2083, the initiative aims to promote cleanliness standards in government institutions while ensuring maximum impact at minimal cost.
As per the guidelines, government offices must install at least two types of dustbins for separating biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. Proper management of old and unusable items has been mandated, while open burning of waste has been strictly prohibited.
To ensure sustainability, each office is required to appoint a cleanliness focal person. The guidelines also require agencies to prepare weekly cleanliness schedules and conduct monthly self-assessments.
The responsibility for implementing and monitoring the campaign has been assigned to the heads of concerned offices, who must also maintain regular records of progress.
