Patients of high-altitude sickness visiting treatment centre on the rise

MUSTANG: A total of 684 devotees received health care services in the past nine months at the Mountaineering High-Altitude Treatment Centre in Muktinath, Mustang.

The Province Hospital in Jomsom shared that the devotees to the Muktinath Temple, who were taken ill due to high altitude, visited the Treatment Centre in the district.

Hospital’s Medical Superintendent Dr Samiksha Kandel said some of the tourists visiting the Muktinath Temple fell sick due to high-altitude on their way to the holy shrine, which lies at an altitude of 3,800 metres above the sea level.

According to Dr Kandel, the Treatment Centre was established at the Muktinath Temple premises with support and coordination from the Province Hospital and Baragung Muktichhetra Rural Municipality. Dr Kandel shared that two facilities of six beds are in operation there.

A total of six people including three Nepalis succumbed to the high-altitude sickness in this fiscal year, Dr Kandel added.
