Labor permit is the only document needed for migrant workers: DOI

KATHMANDU: The Department of Immigration (DoI) has issued a formal clarification stating that Nepali citizens traveling for foreign employment are not required to carry any additional documentation beyond their official labor permit.

The clarification comes as a relief to prospective migrant workers following a period of significant confusion caused by a notice from the Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE) on April 6.

The DoFE’s earlier notice had suggested that workers might need to present air ticket receipts, proof of service charge payments to recruitment agencies, and other supplementary financial documents at the airport. However, the DoI has now overriden that requirement, simplifying the departure process at the international terminal.

According to the DoI, once a migrant worker has completed the necessary government procedures and obtained a valid labor permit, they are free to travel without providing further receipts or evidence of agency transactions.

Additionally, the Department reminded the public of the simplified “visit visa” protocols. Nepali citizens traveling abroad on visit visas only need to present a passport with at least six months of validity, a confirmed two-way air ticket, and a valid entry visa for their destination.

Under current regulations, these travelers are permitted to depart after signing a standard self-declaration form, ensuring a more streamlined experience for all outbound Nepali citizens.
