Partial flights resume to West Asia after 12-day suspension

KATHMANDU: Flights to the West Asia region, which were suspended for 12 days, have partially resumed following a slight easing of tensions in the area.

According to Santush Kumar Basnet, spokesperson for Tribhuvan International Airport, international airlines have restarted some flights after monitoring the situation for the past five days.

The suspension began on February 28, following the outbreak of the US-Iran conflict, when flights were halted citing passenger safety concerns. Several international flights from Nepal were canceled during this period.

Airspace closures were imposed by airlines operating in the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, and Bahrain due to the escalating conflict.

Basnet said that flight schedules are confirmed only a day in advance, and based on that, some flights have started operating partially. “Air Arabia and Fly Dubai are among the airlines that have resumed limited flights,” he added.

Meanwhile, Himalaya Airlines has also partially resumed its Dubai service for the past four days, operating with around 100 passengers per day.
