NC leader Gopal Man Shrestha praises Gagan Thapa’s leadership

KATHMANDU: Gopal Man Shrestha, a leader of the Nepali Congress and former minister, has said the courage and vision shown by party President Gagan Thapa have helped strengthen the party.

In a letter addressed to Thapa following the recently concluded Federal Parliament election in Nepal, Shrestha praised his leadership at a time when the party is facing challenges.

Shrestha noted that although the election results were not as expected, the protection of democracy and the strengthening of the rule of law remain the major achievements.

“More than the election results, safeguarding democracy and ending political instability are important for us,” Shrestha wrote in the letter. “The country has begun returning to normalcy, and your leadership has provided us with hope and direction in this journey.”

At a time when discussions about resignation have surfaced within the party, Shrestha clarified that stepping down now would not serve the interests of either the party or the country.

He said the situation should not be viewed as a failure of leadership but rather as a warning that the party has not yet fully transformed itself in line with the people’s desire for change.

“Gagan, the courage you have demonstrated and your ability to inspire the youth have made us stronger,” Shrestha wrote, adding that all party members should stand united behind Thapa during this difficult time.

Shrestha also stressed the need to move forward with a strong commitment to strengthening the party organization from the ward level to the central level. He expressed confidence that Thapa’s leadership has opened the path toward renewed energy and transformation within the party.

He further said the election has sent a message that the party must adapt to changing times and embrace the aspirations of young people.
