RSP tops PR vote tally as counting enters final stage

Nepali Congress and CPN-UML trail in second and third place respectively



KATHMANDU: The counting of votes under the proportional representation (PR) system of the House of Representatives election held on March 5 has reached its final stage.

According to the latest results released by the Election Commission Nepal, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), which secured 125 seats in the first-past-the-post (direct) election, has also received the highest number of votes in the proportional system. Only a small number of votes remain to be counted.

So far, the RSP has secured 5,135,621 votes. The Nepali Congress is in second place with 1,747,737 votes, followed by the CPN-UML in third place with 1,448,318 votes.

Similarly, the Nepali Communist Party is in fourth place with 803,627 votes. The Shram Sanskriti Party ranks fifth with 378,587 votes, while the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) stands sixth with 329,457 votes, crossing the required threshold.

In total, 17,030,551 votes have been counted so far under the proportional representation system. The results of the direct (first-past-the-post) elections were announced on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Madhesh-based parties that had previously achieved national party status by crossing the threshold are trailing significantly this time. The Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal has received 174,306 votes, while the Janamat Party has secured 78,949 votes. The Rastriya Pariwartan Party has received 171,497 votes, placing it ahead of the Janamat Party.
