Thunderstorms and lightning likely across all seven provinces today



KATHMANDU: Thunderstorms and lightning are likely in several parts of the country on Wednesday as Nepal remains under the partial influence of westerly winds, along with a high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere and a low-pressure area in the lower atmosphere near eastern Nepal.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, light and scattered rainfall was recorded at one or two locations in Koshi Province, Bagmati Province and Gandaki Province. A total of 6.6 millimeters of rainfall was measured in Lamapatan during the last three hours.

According to the Department, the weather will remain generally cloudy in Koshi Province, Madhesh Province, Bagmati Province and Gandaki Province as well as other hilly regions on Wednesday afternoon, while the remaining areas will experience partly cloudy conditions. Fog is also likely at a few places in the Terai and valley areas.

During the afternoon, there is a possibility of light rain and snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning at a few places in the hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi Province, Bagmati Province, Gandaki Province and Lumbini Province.

Similarly, one or two locations in the hilly and mountainous areas of Karnali Province and Sudurpashchim Province may experience light rain or snowfall with thunder and lightning.

There is also a chance of light rainfall with thunder and lightning in one or two places in the Terai regions of Madhesh Province, Bagmati Province, Gandaki Province and Lumbini Province.

At night, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy in the hilly areas of Koshi Province, Madhesh Province, Bagmati Province, Gandaki Province, Lumbini Province, Karnali Province and Sudurpashchim Province, while the remaining areas will be partly cloudy.

The Department has also forecast the possibility of light rain or snowfall with thunder and lightning at one or two places in Koshi Province, Madhesh Province, Bagmati Province and Gandaki Province during the night.
