MYAGDI: The 35.5 MW Upper Myagdi-1 Hydropower Project has achieved a major milestone with the breakthrough of a section of its headrace tunnel from the adit toward the dam site.
Promoted by Myagdi Hydropower Limited, the project connected the tunnel excavated from the adit site at Chhahari in Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-4 to the under-construction powerhouse at Bharwang in Malika Rural Municipality-7 on Wednesday.
Project Chief Jyoti Kumar KC said a 2,506.39-meter section of the tunnel connecting the adit site to the dam has been excavated and broken through. Of the total 3,283.32-meter tunnel planned from Chhahari to the dam site in Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-4, 1,973 meters have been completed so far, KC said.
“Work is progressing with the aim of completing the remaining section of the tunnel within the next few months,” he said. According to KC, overall physical progress of the project has reached 56 percent, and construction is expected to be completed within the next year.
