KATHMANDU: The Nepal LP Gas Industry Association has said that the supply and distribution of liquefied petroleum (LP) gas across the country has continued without disruption despite recent natural disasters.
The Association said the gas industry has maintained a steady supply system during past crises, including earthquakes, blockades and the COVID-19 pandemic.
The floods triggered by the Bhote Koshi River on August 26 caused extensive damage in several districts, including Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha and Chitwan. Likewise, the erosion of the Krishnabhir section of the Prithvi Highway by the Trishuli River on August 30 disrupted road access, preventing gas bullets from reaching Kathmandu, according to the association.
Following instructions from Nepal Oil Corporation, alternative arrangements were made to ensure continued supply to the Kathmandu Valley. Gas cylinders normally refilled at industries in Kathmandu, Kavre and Dhading were instead refilled at facilities in Bara, Parsa, Chitwan, Dhanusha and Nawalparasi and transported to the Valley for distribution. The Association said the Kathmandu Valley consumes around 40,000 LP gas cylinders a day.
Over the past three days, gas cylinders have been refilled at industries in the Terai region and supplied to consumers in the Valley. The association said additional cylinders would continue to be refilled and distributed according to demand in the coming days.
The Association has also appealed to consumers not to stockpile LP gas during the disaster period and urged them to purchase only the quantity they need.
