KATHMANDU: Active monsoon winds are affecting most parts of the country, bringing light to moderate rain to several provinces and increasing the risk of flash floods, landslides, and soil erosion in vulnerable areas.
According to the Weather Forecasting Division, the weather is generally cloudy across all parts of Koshi and Lumbini provinces and in the mountainous and hilly regions of Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
The weather is partly cloudy in the Terai areas of Madhes Province and in the Terai regions of Bagmati, Gandaki, and Sudurpaschim provinces, it said. Light to moderate rainfall is occurring in some places of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Similarly, the Division has forecast generally cloudy weather across the country this afternoon. Moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in some mountainous areas, with a possibility of snowfall in higher elevations. Many hilly areas are expected to receive moderate rainfall.
Moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is also likely in some Terai areas of Koshi, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces, and in a few places in the Terai regions of Madhes, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.
The Division has warned of heavy rainfall at one or two places in the Himalayan and hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, the hilly areas of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, and the hilly and Terai areas of Lumbini Province.
Tonight, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy throughout the country. Moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely in some Himalayan areas, along with possible snowfall in higher elevations. Many hilly and Terai areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces are also expected to receive moderate rainfall.
Moderate rainfall is possible in some Terai areas of Madhes and Koshi provinces. It has urged residents of vulnerable areas to take necessary precautions, as heavy rainfall may increase the risk of flash floods, floods, landslides, and soil erosion. Such conditions may affect daily life, agriculture, health services, tourism, mountaineering, and road and air transportation services.
