Sarlahi man attempts self-immolation, MP seeks immediate rescue



KATHMANDU: A 35-year-old man from Sarlahi has reportedly attempted self-immolation, days after the death of Ganesh Nepali following a similar incident in Kathmandu.

According to House of Representatives member Amaresh Kumar Singh, Bivek Mandal of Godaita Municipality-10, Sarlahi, poured petrol on himself and attempted self-immolation.

In a Facebook post, Singh said a helicopter had been dispatched to airlift Mandal to Kathmandu after he received information about the incident.

The lawmaker said he had informed Prime Minister Balendra Shah, Home Minister Sudan Gurung and his party chair Rabi Lamichhane about the situation and requested immediate intervention.

Stating that Mandal’s condition was critical, Singh urged the government to ensure his prompt rescue and provide free medical treatment.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident or the circumstances leading to the self-immolation attempt.
