UML lawmaker says government must take responsibility for Ganesh Nepali’s death

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML lawmaker Bhumika Limbu Subba has said the government must take responsibility for the death of Ganesh Nepali, arguing that the incident raises serious questions about state accountability and sensitivity.

Speaking during Friday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Subba said Nepali’s death resulted from a penalty system imposed without due consideration of the nature and gravity of the situation.

She said the incident had raised serious concerns about the state’s responsiveness, responsibility and social conscience.

The lawmaker called for an impartial investigation into the case, action against those found responsible, and immediate relief and compensation for Nepali’s family.

Subba also objected to what she described as attempts to create an artificial divide between the “new” and the “old” in political discourse.
