KATHMANDU: CPN-UML parliamentary party leader Ram Bahadur Thapa “Badal” has said that the party will continue obstructing parliamentary proceedings until the Prime Minister apologizes in the House.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Badal stated that Parliament would not be allowed to function unless the Prime Minister’s statement claiming that Nepal had also encroached on Indian territory is removed from the official record and the Speaker issues a ruling on the matter.
He accused the government of failing to address a serious national issue and criticized the Speaker for not taking action against the Prime Minister’s remarks.
“As long as the Prime Minister’s statement remains on record, parliamentary proceedings cannot move forward. The nation comes first, and national sovereignty is the foremost concern,” Badal said. “We will continue our protest in a different manner if necessary. We are not in a position to agree with the statement made by the Foreign Minister.”
He added that issues related to national sovereignty must be addressed before Parliament proceeds with other agendas, warning that the current political deadlock cannot be resolved unless the matter is corrected.
Referring to recent remarks made in interviews by former Rastriya Swatantra Party General Secretary Mukul Dhakal, Badal also expressed concern over the country’s political direction, questioning whether Nepal could be heading toward a situation resembling the “Pakistani model.”
He reiterated that the parliamentary impasse would continue until the Prime Minister’s statement is amended and appropriate action is taken by the Speaker.
