House of Representatives meeting taking place today

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) is scheduled to take place today at 11:00 am at the Federal Parliament Building in Singha Durbar.

However, there is little likelihood that the House will conduct its regular business, as opposition parties have continued to obstruct parliamentary proceedings over remarks made by Prime Minister Balendra Shah regarding border issues.

The opposition has maintained that it will not allow the House to function until the Prime Minister withdraws his statement and issues an apology from the parliamentary rostrum. As a result, parliamentary proceedings have remained stalled for an extended period.

According to the tentative agenda, Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle is expected to respond to questions raised during discussions on the annual budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2083/84.

The budget discussion is scheduled to begin after the Finance Minister presents a proposal, along with a statement, to initiate a general debate on the government’s annual estimates of revenue and expenditure for the fiscal year 2083/84.

During the meeting, the Speaker is also expected to read out a letter concerning the allocation of additional responsibilities received from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.

The House will be informed about nominations to the Business Advisory Committee and notified that the Alternative Development Finance Mobilization Bill, 2082, was not withdrawn from the National Assembly within the prescribed deadline.

Likewise, Minister for Information and Communications Dr. Bikram Timilsina is scheduled to present a proposal to refer the Film Bill, 2082—originating in the National Assembly—to the concerned committee for clause-by-clause discussion.
